Our Story

To date Little Rhody Rescue and it’s affiliates have adopted over  13,500 shelter dogs to loving wonderful families.

Little Rhody Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit dog rescue and quarantine facility located in Rhode Island, we strive to find safe homes for abandoned and neglected dogs. We are made up of a small group of friends who share a love for dogs, with Kate Healey Dubuque being the founder and President of the rescue. All of our dogs are rescued from animal shelters in Tennessee that are considered to be “high kill” shelters. We now are also assisting our pals in Louisiana as well!

They are then tested for disease, spayed and neutered, micro-chipped, vaccinated, de-wormed and administered preventions for fleas, ticks and heart worm. We are licensed in the states of Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine.

In 2024 we partnered with Dog On It Therapy Dog Training to focus on aiding individuals and families struggling with hearing, physical stability and sight impairments, PTSD, Anxiety disorders or Autism spectrum- related needs. Additionally, we equip dogs to school systems that are benefitting from the presence of therapy dogs in the daily life of children.

We’re working with some wonderfully talented trainers to guide our teams (of clients and dogs) to healthier, more bountiful lives together; helping our clients to overcome some of the difficulties that they incur day to day.
